It was Friday, the end of school for the first week examination and also the first week of Catherine and her friends had stayed in the police cell yet, no sign of money to bale them. The next week ending was the time they will be taken to the court for judgement. Of course they will be found guilty and thrown inside the prison to rust. The week was also the time Uwana Government Secondary School will also finish their examnation.
On that Friday, all the classes from JSS1 to SS3 were writing Mathematics. Everywhere was quiet when the exam started. The student could only hear the voice of singing birds nearby a bush. Some students especially the junior students chewed the bottom part of their pen till the tiny rubber cover was removed. Some looked at the ceiling to figure out the answer from there but all to no avail.
"This is why i told you to always study your books and leave too much of play" The principal said in each class she entered.

After two hours thirty minutes, students started coming out from their classes gradually. Each with a frowned face.
"How was the exam?" A junior student asked his friend.
"Guy, Mathematics is not easy oh" He replied and placed his already chewed pen inside his mouth again. His friend saw it and shouted, "Guy, e don do nah before you swallow the pen!" Both started laughing seriously.
All the students were through. Since it was on Friday, the school closes earlier than other days. Alex called Nath and Timothy. "Please, you guys should follow me to go and see Catherine" He told them.
"In the police station again?" Timothy wanted to be sure.
"Yes" Alex replied.
"Can we call Rose and Karina?" Nath asked.
"Yes, lets see if they will follow us" Alex concluded.
Karina and Rose were discussing on how the mathematics exam was when Alex arrived with Nath and Timothy. Karina frowned her face again when she saw Nath which melted his heart.
"What's it?" Rose asked.
"Please, could you guys follow us to see Catherine since we close early today" Alex requested. "We will be back before 2:00pm" He added.
"Okay, no problem" Rose replied and looked at Karina who picked her bag and was ready to go.

At the police station, Catherine and her partners in crime were called out for Alex and his friends after they had answered series of questions from a policeman.
The three girls were looking hungry especially Sandra because nobody brought food for her. She was just sharing the ones brought for Catherine and Elizabeth by their parents. She was a growing adult who came from the village to look for a way forward in life.
Alex signaled Catherine to come closer. With a shame, she moved helplessly in handcuffs to Alex while the other students looked around the office. Karina made sure she wasn't standing close to Nath.
"How are you doing?" Alex asked Catherine, but she was quiet.
"I have come to see you" Alex leaned forward, yet, no response from Catherine rather tears was running down her eyes like a flowing river.
"Have you eaten?" Alex asked and she nodded her head negatively.
Alex brought out money and gave it to Rose to buy lunch for three of them. Karina made sure she followed Rose. They went to Mama-rice and bought jelof rice. Each plate was handed to the three girls after a policeman made them tasted the food first.
"I will be going now" Alex said, yet Catherine couldn't say a word but looked at Alex as he went home with his friends.

Mr Doye had tried to lend money from his friends but all to no avail. He came back home and saw his wife crying in the cushion.
"I have tried my best to raise one million naira but is not even up to half of it" The husband said in a low voice and dried his wife's tears.

It was on Saturday evening, Alex's mother was in the parlour watching African Magic while Rose and Alex in the same room.
"I want to go and tell mummy now" Alex told Rose.
"Go now, but don't mention my name oh" Rose said with her hand on her ear.
Alex put all his mind together and went inside the labour. He sat with his mother.
